Instructions for servicing STEER hydraulic jacks

Dismantle

  1. Drain oil from jack.
  2. Place jack in a secure vice, clamping the base. Then with a suitable spanner or wrench, unscrew top nut and withdraw ram gaskets and outer casing.
  3. Unscrew the inner tube – take care not to damage if reusing!
  4. Remove release valve as a complete unit (unscrew larger nut).
  5. Remove pump / handle assembly.

Cleaning

Wash all parts including jack base thoroughly in KERO, scraping away any build up of sludge. Check that all holes in the base are not blocked. Check inner tube for any fractures. If leather bucket is torn or is showing signs of wear, it must be replaced.

Re Assembly

  1. Using LOCTITE 262, screw in the inner tube until it hits the bottom of the jack base casting. NOTE: the inner tube has 2 small holes drilled in 1 end. This is the top.
  2. Drop brass washer into Pump hole, pop valve (The 2 holes uppermost) and another brass washer. No drilled holes should be visible above the brass washer.
  3. Using LOCTITE 262, screw hexagon pump body into the base using a spanner until you feel it "bite" into the brass washer (Over-tightening will cause the base to crack).
  4. Fit small "O" ring into recessed seat.
  5. Fit Teflon washer onto silver steel pump plunger assembly.
  6. With a drop of oil on the "O" ring slide the silver steel plunger into hexagon pump assembly. (Take care not to pinch the "O" ring)
  7. Hit selok pin in, to secure pump link. The handle should be in the up position.
  8. Screw top nut down until tight with a spanner. Fit an extension handle and back off nut until you feel handle move down.
  9. The release valve is fitted to the base as a complete assembly. Be sure the valve is wound out to avoid damage to tip and seat when fitting.
  10. With outer casing and gaskets in place, fit ram and top nut/ cap assembly together as one unit. Tighten cap until you feel it "bite" in.
  11. Fill with oil (Neodrul hpnz 20 or equivalent) until 5mm below the filling hole.
  12. Pump jack up, unscrew filler plug and hold your finger over it to prevent spillage. Open release valve and push ram down – this will bleed any air out of the system. Repeat.
  13. Refit filling screw.
